June 20, 2012 DAWSON CREEK
Much to our surprise, today started off in the upper 60's with sunshine everywhere! By the time we had done laundry and housekeeping chores and set out for sightseeing, the temperature was well into the 70's. It felt wonderful.
Dawson Creek's claim to fame is that it is where the Alaska Highway started in 1942. Milepost zero is in the middle of town. You have to run out into traffic to get your picture taken there, but of course we did it.

The museum here is great--a wealth of information about what life was like here in the early part of the 20th century. We also went to Pioneer Village where we paid $2.00 each to see a reconstructed version of Dawson Creek complete with churches, schools, stores, and houses. What a great sightseeing value! |
