Teslin, YT

June 24, 2012   TESLIN, YT

We left Watson Lake this morning and had an easy drive to Teslin, in the Yukon.  On the way there we were fortunate to see two grizzly bears along the road.  We got pictures of one, but the other just poked his head out of the grass for a moment, then disappeared again.

Grizzly of the day.

Along the way we saw beautiful views of the Cassiar Mountains and crossed many little creeks and streams.  The Alaska Highway is much easier in these parts than we had expected.  We stopped at the Continental Divide and then arrived in Teslin early in the afternoon.
We settled in at the Yukon Motel and Campground with a  lovely view of Teslin Lake.  The campground has a great wildlife exhibit that we really enjoyed.  We took Corky to swim in the lake and she had a ball!  Then we took a short drive to see some totem poles at the culture center and some scenic overlooks of the surrounding mountains.

We visited with some folks that we have seen in several campgrounds along the way, but will probably not see again for a while as we are headed for Skagway and they are headed for Whitehorse tomorrow.

We had fish and chips for dinner at the local cafe (delicious) and bought ice cream for dessert at the local grocery/gas station/gift shop.
