Rain in Seward

July 12, 2012     Seward

Not much to report today.  It was cold and rainy, so we did most of our sightseeing from the car.  We started out by going to the Seward Military Resort to schedule some trips through their office using our military discount.  What a nice place!  It is a shame they had no room for us in their campground.  They were very helpful and we booked a Kenai Fjords Wildlife Tour for tomorrow, and finalized the plans for the guys to go fishing for halibut with them on Friday.

We rode around the town, checked out the waterfront, and visited the Kenai Fjords National Park Visitor's Center.  Because of the rain and cold there weren't many opportunities for photographs, but we did visit Mile 0 of the Iditerod Trail.   This was the original sled dog trail that went from Seward to Nome.  The part that is now used for the Iditerod Race goes from Anchorage to Nome.   For more information on this historic trail go to www.blm.gov/ak/st/en/prog/nlcs/iditarod.html.  Located in this same area is the monument to the founding of Seward in 1903.
